A Trustworthy Designer

Art is a venture into chaos, and design brings order out of art. Sometimes, a good artist with a keen sense of aesthetics fails to be a good designer when they don’t know how to design.

In my limited but fruitful experiences as both an artist and a designer professionally, I have learned to be a reliable designer for clients big or small, to work with various styles and schedules, both for print and for digital uses.

From Artist to Designer

I first began my journey as a self-taught, traditional media artist and illustrator, taking small commissions from my immediate circle. It was not long before I realized that the endeavor to make art as my career path was going to be difficult: being an artist in the truest sense of the word means that you are creating something out of your own interest, and you rely on pure chance that someone will eventually like what you make while you’re still alive. In light of this realization, I know that additional skillsets are required to make the pursuit of aesthetics a practical career path.

This is where I began to design! As a designer, the starting point is always going to be a process of empathizing with my client – to understand the needs and vision in its context, and the end result, ideally, the design will meet the client’s vision as articulated and done within a set timeline. To improve my abilities to communicate with clients, I have taken on many jobs and projects throughout my college career, with clients whose background is as small as a local non-profit and as big as my university’s enrollment marketing department. I strongly believe that the art of communication is as important as creating the design itself.

My Design Philosophy

When I refer to myself as a trustworthy designer, I do not mean it generically, as in I have some inherent trustworthiness in me that no one can really practically verify. Instead, I am referring to and hoping to demonstrate this professional quality of trustworthiness through my portfolio.

As mentioned, I have worked with a variety of clients and have put myself through the challenges that shape me as the designer that I am. If you share my belief in what makes a trustworthy designer, and believe that I am whom you’re looking for, I look forward to connect with you!
