Designing the University of Arizona's Recruitment Endeavors

One of the most essential aspect in the operation of a university lies in its ability to draw in new students. For this cause, the University of Arizona relies on its own Enrollment Management department for the outreach and the recruitment of students. Enrollment Marketing is a subunit of the department that serves as its full-time creative agency, responsible for the creation of all print and digital marketing collaterals.

For the past two years, I had the fortune to work with and learn from the best designers and marketing specialists the University of Arizona has to offer, producing digital and print media that are distributed to thousands of prospective students. On this page, you will find designs that I personally produced from start to finish in this agency setting.

Destination Arizona Animated Gifs

Tools used: Adobe Photoshop

Description: Our generation loves marketing collaterals accompanying fun gifs! As a part of the Destination Arizona Campaign, I created a few animated gifts with our icon assets using Adobe Photoshop.

Destination Arizona Signage

Tools used: Adobe InDesign

Dimensions: 45 * 25 in.

Description: Nothing screams “college” more than an orientation event! Destination Arizona is the University of Arizona’s most iconic orientation event designed to welcome new Wildcats and allow them to explore activities they can do on different parts of the campus.

For the 2023 Destination Arizona, I had the privilege to create a few marketing collaterals including food tickets, flyers, tent signages, and a LOT of Aframes.

I've chosen to display a few Aframes here as they represent the largest print project I've designed to date. During this project, we had to make numerous adjustments to adhere to our budget constraints while ensuring we produced an ample quantity of signs for the event.

Description: Marked the beginning of my journey with Enrollment Marketing is a series of 8.5 by 5.5 in. flyers. Each year, these checklists are sent out to over 10,000 first-year and transfer students who have committed to the University.

The series of checklists is designed to assist both categories of students (two separate designs) in navigating their initial experiences as Wildcats. Presented here are the designs from the summers of 2022 and 2023, anticipating the arrival of new Fall students.

MaiaZine Designs

Description: MaiaLearning is an online platform that collaborates with students from various backgrounds to assist them in taking their next academic or professional career steps. Annually, the University of Arizona partners with MaiaLearning to create dedicated spreads within the online magazine, MaiaZine. These pages are aimed at promoting the university to high school/prospective students.

I created the spreads for the University of Arizona for both April and September of 2023, in collaboration with our creative writing team.

Roundtrip Booklet

Tools used: Adobe InDesign

Dimensions: 8.5 * 5.5 in.

Description: The Roundtrip Booklet is crafted for local outreach events, aiming to connect with and assess high schoolers' aspirations and their interest in future academic careers.

Prior to this design, a version of this booklet was generated using Canva, which was unsuitable for print and lacked consistency with the University's brand identity. Consequently, I was assigned the responsibility of creating a new design using Adobe InDesign.

Description: Over the last two years, my responsibility has been crafting monthly emails destined for distribution to over 300,000 students and parents. Through collaboration with our creative writer, we've observed a remarkable surge in our email open rate, experiencing a growth of up to 200% when comparing 2023 to 2022!

Recruiter Templates

Tools used: Adobe InDesign, Marq, Stripo

Dimensions: 8.5 * 11 in. and others.

Description: As hinted on in the description for the Roadtrip project, sometimes our design department doesn’t have enough capacity to create everything our recruiters needed from scratch, every time. Therefore, it is also our job as designers to create templates to help sustain the regular flow of marketing and engagement.

For the 8 * 11 in. flyers, I created a few general and recruiter-specific designs with InDesign; and they are later reassembled to Marq, where our recruiters will be able to make edits without needing prior experiences with or knowledge of InDesign.

Alongside the flyers, I also created a brand new email template accompanying a number of banner assets ready for whenever a recruiter needs.
